Synopsis
In the remote Liangshan Mountains, 14-year-old Qihuo and her friends set out to find a skirt for her rite of passage. What begins as a small quest drifts into a suspended space of childhood, where time slows and the world is vast.

Dongnan Chen
Dongnan Chen is a documentary filmmaker from China. She graduated from the documentary programme at New York University. She has worked at media organisations in both China and the United States. Her film Sound of Vision (2012), for which she worked as one of the producers, filmmakers and editors, was nominated for an Emmy award and premiered at Hot Docs. The Trail from Xinjiang (2013) has been screened at various festivals, universities and museums worldwide. Even though the film is censored in China, it has become one of the most-watched independent documentaries underground. Singing in the Wilderness (2021) is her first feature documentary, selected at IFFR 2022. Her latest film Whispers in May premiered at CPH:DOX 2026.
