Synopsis
The Second Nagorno-Karabakh war breaks out in September of 2020. In Stepanakert, capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, men are at the frontlines, women hide in the cellars, and director Silva Khnkanosian sets out to find them and keeps a logbook. Life is organized under the bombs; women follow the war on the radio or checking their phones. No one sees defeat as an option.
Silva Khnkanosian
Born in Armenia, Silva Khnkanosian is a reporter, photographer and director. She trained at the Manana Youth Center. Nothing to Be Afraid of (2019) is her first feature film. It was selected at multiple prestigious festivals such as Dok Leipzig, IFFR Rotterdam, Fipadoc and FICCI Cartagena. In 2020, at the start of the 44-day war, Silva left to shoot in Stepanakaert. Far From Michigan (2023) is her second feature film that was screened at Cinéma du Réel 2024.
